My name is Austin Johnson. I am 25 years old. For the past eleven years I have been working in some of the top restaurants in the world. Lived in Seattle, New York City, Indianapolis, Alaska, and Omaha. Food has opened opportunities all over the world for me. I came across this one. Cooking on a commercial fishing vessel in Alaska for three months with five guys. I did this because I am passionate about the Ocean, boats, and all things nautical. After living on a 36 foot boat in Seattle for two years, I knew my sea legs were under me to be successful on the open ocean. I left what would be considered a dream job. Working at Eleven Madison Park for Daniel Humm in New York City, which just won James Beard “Most Outstanding Restaurant in America.” Prior to that I was working at Canlis Restaurant in Seattle for the Food and Wine Top Ten Best New Chefs in America, Jason Franey. These restaurants were incredible, amazing to be apart of both. I am taking the mindset that these great chefs have taught me, and taking it straight to this fishing boat. My mission, Eat better than anyone in Alaska. Life is about stories, and I want a bunch to tell.
